Unique Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge.

Unique Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge.

Nature-lovers will be thrilled with this unique boat tour through the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge. This is a favorite for birdwatchers during the dry season and is ideal for wildlife viewing year-round. On the way to the wetlands of Caño Negro, located near the Nicaraguan border, you will observe many of the plantations of the San Carlos plains, including papaya, pineapple, yucca, sugar cane, and oranges. Once we arrive, we will stop for a welcome snack in a local restaurant, before boarding the pontoon on the Rio Frio River. For two and a half hours, we will leisurely float down the river to observe the surrounding wetlands and the variety of species which inhabit it.

Storks, spoonbills, ducks, cormorants, ibis, herons, egrets, and anhinga are among the bird species often spotted during the tour. In addition, caiman, iguanas, monkeys, peccaries, cougars, jaguars, ocelots, and tapirs often make an appearance during the tour as well. An abundance of unique flora will add to the overall beauty of the surroundings, making your day unforgettable.

After this wonderful experience, we will return to the local restaurant for a delicious Costa Rican lunch.
